Vata Dosha
There are three doshas in Ayurvedic medicine--vata, pitta, and kapha. Ayurveda believes that the doshas play a role in governing the physiological activities of humans. Vata oversees movements within the body, such as blood flow and breathing. The vata dosha is considered the primary dosha since kapha and pitta need it in order to move.
Vata is a mixture of air and ether. The wind is an ethereal phenomenon that seems to be everything at once. People who have a vata dosha are mostly energetic, creative, and lively. They sleep lightly and have sensitive stomachs. Vata becomes imbalanced when they experience anxiety, insomnia, weight loss and indigestion.Vata is found in various parts of the body: specifically, the large intestine, pelvic region, knees, skin, ears and hips. When there's an excess amount of Vata present in the body, it becomes deposited in these areas. If this dosha falls out of sync, the result is anxiety, insomnia and flatulence. A daily routine of regulated meals, warm temperature foods, massages, and baths will maintain the body healthy.
