A sigil is a specific kind of magical symbol, the term has historically been used to describe an action, much like a spell or chant. Modern usage, especially in the context of chaos magic, refers to a symbolic representation of the practitioner's desired results. You can make your own or use some from others, we have a ton on our site we share with everyone. Sigils are a fantastic way of adding a little bit of self-care magic into your day-to-day activities! Now that we've covered the basics, let's talk about creating your very own sigil!

There are many ways to create your own personal sigil. One popular method is to write down your intention or desire, and then create a symbol that represents that intention through the letting within your sentence or phrase of intent. By doing this, we're creating chaos magic sigils. A chaos sigil differs from these ancient sigils in that we aren't invoking any particular spirit. Instead, we create and charge a custom symbol with our own personal desire or objective. The intention setting, like many types of spellwork, is crucial, and creating a sigil starts with developing a sentence or phrase that best expresses what we want to accomplish.

We utilize symbols to make the purpose statement unrecognizable, so that our subconscious mind understands it rather than our conscious mind. Similarly, when using tarot cards, you must first remove any preconceived notions or personal meaning before performing readings. I'm sure you're wondering, why not just write the sence or phrase out then? When we are using our conscious mind to read the words rather than really tapping into our subconscious; it's simpler to go beyond our conscious thoughts and connect with something deeper and more instinctive by utilizing images and symbolism, much like we do with divination practices or dream interpretations. Once you have created your sigil, you can then charge it with energy by chanting, meditating on, or visualizing your desired outcome, we'll go over how to charge your sigil in a bit, first let focus on creating one.

Some things to keep in mind when creating your own sigil:

- Keep it simple: The simpler the design, the easier it will be to charge and activate.

- Make it personal: Your sigil should be unique to you and represent your specific desire.

- Have fun: Sigil magic is a powerful tool, but it should also be enjoyable. So have fun

To begin, describe your aim in a single sentence or phrase. The use of the present tense "I am" versus "I will be" is beneficial. Also, if your sigil focuses on one subject, it has a better probability of working; therefore, don't make your intention too general. Then write down your goal on a piece of paper. Next and very importantly, delete all the vowels and repeated letters in your intention and start composing the pieces of your remaining letters one at a time creating an abstract symbol. Try not to focus too much on what the drawing looks like, let your subconscious guide you in this part. We’ll be altering this sigil when charing anyways so there's no need to worry about its attractiveness.

There are plenty of methods to charge a sigil. Since we're creating a short-term sigil, adding water, oils, or even burning it will be what charges it. You can charge your sigil by including an element and form of magic, for example burning, pouring oils/ waters while chanting, or meditating over it. You can also charge a sigil by dancing, chanting, or clapping so choose the method you feel fits best with the type of sigil you are creating, have fun with this portion! I prefer to add motion and a chant, since I'm an air sign, I tend to always charge my sigils with the element in mostly tied to. When you burn the sigil, make sure you're in a safe and quiet space without distractions. Now that your sigil is charged and in use you can release it from your thought process and let the magic happen. Thes best part of sigils is how easy yet powerful they are!
